ARTIST

STATEMENT

From the beginning of my search for a personal artistic line, I have been accompanied by history and sociology, in order to have a true appreciation of my contemporary reality. With these tools I learned that a well-told image has the power to change prejudices, create identity and help shape a better world.

My academic training as an architect, which complements my culture as a Guatemalan Ladino or a mestizo Hispanicized by historical transculturation, allowed me to capture in my artistic work the cultural syncretism that occurred from the fusion and miscegenation process between Europe, the Latin American Continent and the essence of the Guatemalan identity, which I try to synthesize in each of my paintings that I universalize, through an understandable graphic narrative and integrated by different iconic elements, which, synthesized and re-codifying them with my own plastic language, reflect the ingenuity and innocence of children's drawings, through their vivid colors, as well as candid compositions that I finish off by adorning with poetry.

In this constant search, I discovered my accomplice, the main character who would accompany me in each of my pictorial works, my nemesis full of balanced poetic justice, my alter ego, the "Tukur". Name with which I baptize my pictorial work in the Quiché language, alluding to the little Owl or Owl that undaunted, observes or is observed, depending on where the viewer is located in each of my works.
